Hi KAD,
Thank you for your interest in Dynatek ignitions. I am not aware of any "2 idle settings" in the OEM ignition modules used on Evo's but as you noted there might be something going on with the VOES switch or maybe a vacuum leak causing an erratic idle. The Dyna 2000 uses it's own proprietary curves so that should not be an issue as long as the aforementioned items are in good working order.
And yes, as long as the base timing is still set as it was from the factory and is in good working order there should not be any reason to go into the cam cover. If we can be of any future assistance please feel free to contact us anytime.
