?Hello Van,
Dynojet Quick shifters are designed to provide smooth upshifts from 2nd gear and higher, without the user having to engage the clutch or back off the throttle. They provide a momentary kill of the fuel and/or ignition, which reduces the acceleration load on the engine, causing the rpms of the transmission gears to slow down enough to easily mesh with adjoining gears when shifting. This momentary drop in rpms is substantially less than the drop that normally occurs when the clutch is engaged or the throttle reduced, and keeps the engine rpms within the optimum power band, so no loss of power is experienced when shifting.
The Quick Shifter will not work well for a 1st to 2nd gear shift due to having to pass through neutral which would require too long of a kill time to get a smooth shift, and therefore should only be used for 2nd gear and higher upshifts. They are also not fully automatic shifters, and still require the rider to use the foot controls to complete the shift. They will not work for downshifts either, as the momentary kill of the fuel or ignition results in lower rpms, and when downshifting to lower gears the rpms need to be raised. To get a similar clutch-less function when downshifting, you would require an additional component known as an auto blipper that is designed to automatically blip the throttle to raise the rpms and enable a clutch-less downshift. Dynojet does not market or supply that type of product, but for your convenience a link is supplied below to a company that does.
